Ira Gerald Tillman-Murphey Remembered After Fatal Interstate 22 Pedestrian Collision Near Dora, Alabama, On September 2, 2026
Ira Gerald Tillman-Murphey, 65, of Concord, North Carolina, died Wednesday night, September 2, 2026, after a pedestrian collision on eastbound Interstate 22 at Snowville Brent Road in the Dora area.
Authorities said Tillman-Murphey had first been involved in a single-vehicle crash, and the vehicle came to rest on a grassy embankment beside the interstate.
Officials reported that Tillman-Murphey then entered the eastbound travel lanes and was hit by an oncoming motorist at about 8:20 p.m.
The driver stopped at the scene and called 911, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Tillman-Murphey was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Alabama State Troopers continue to review the circumstances and sequence of events.
